KELLIE KLINCK, LPC-S
Hi, I'm Kellie.
Therapist, Clinical Supervisor, and Dog Mom to this adorable little monster, Max.
“I am a helper at heart. Therapy, to me, is where we get to take off all the roles and masks and just be with ourselves. Therapy doesn’t have to involve lying on a couch, telling me about your childhood. It is simply us working together towards growth and change. It is care, practical support, and room to figure things out.”
About Me
My story begins in the Midwest. I was born and raised in Michigan, where I also earned a Master of Arts in Counseling from Oakland University. I launched my career as an undergraduate advisor and career counselor, guiding young adults through the adjustment to college. I really liked what I did, but as I turned 30, I could feel myself wanting to do deeper healing work with people. My time in college counseling had run its course.
Cut to 2017… my husband and I left our friends and family behind and moved to Houston. We had just been through the hell of infertility and arrived in Texas ready for a fresh start. I decided to start working as a private practice clinician at this time, too. Just as we were getting things rolling, Hurricane Harvey hit. I had not seen devastation to that degree before. Life felt fickle and uncertain, and I struggled to stay centered through it all. My defenses of distraction, rationalizing, and perfectionism weren’t working, and I needed help getting back on course. After all of that, I was even more determined to move my career in the direction of adult mental health.
Now, 10 years later, I am in a similar space. My career has followed my developmental journey and this midlife stuff is tricky! My 40s have been full of loss, change, and deep inner reflection. I can feel the importance of time and intention coursing through my veins. Midlife is when our psyche pushes us to confront and consider Universal truths, such as immortality, freedom, isolation, and agency. Did I make the right choices? Am I living in alignment with what I want my legacy to be? It’s scary work, I know. However, the payoff has been greater inner peace, contentment, and manageable fear.
Let me end by saying I really love what I do. We live in a world of constant demands, and I see how tired and exhausted most of us are. Helping clients lighten their emotional and psychological loads is a privilege I do not take lightly. It is too easy to avoid ourselves in this modern era, so let me help you slow down and find space to process thoughts and feelings about aging and existence. All of the messy, difficult parts of living are welcome here.
AREAS OF EXPERTISE
I work best with 30+-year-old clients in the middle of a transformative time in their life. My clinical skills and training make me a good fit for men and women experiencing loss, change, adjustment, and lack of self-understanding. I specialize in mid-life topics, such as:
- Feeling stuck or questioning the direction of your life
- Changes in identity as roles shift in work, family, or relationships
- Grief and loss such as aging parents, bereavement, pet loss, divorce, or unrealized dreams
- Relationship conflict or repeating unhealthy patterns
- Anxiety about aging, health, time, or the future
- Seeking clearer purpose or self-fulfillment
MY APPROACH TO THERAPY
I am a heart-led person, greeting you with honesty and a deep respect for your story. I operate from a Humanistic and Existential perspective on human development and growth. These lenses help us understand yourself more deeply, build self-acceptance, and create change amidst the realities of life. Rather than trying to eliminate our stress, worry, and fear (which is not possible), we commit to building a meaningful life despite these challenges. We use coping tools and methods found in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Attachment Theory, and Trauma-Informed interventions to guide our steps towards your therapy goals. While I can’t do the work for you, I can give you the support and insight to help you get where you want to go.
Take the First Step Toward Support.
